How UKPSC Sets the RO ARO Cut Off — 3 Factors That Shift Marks Each Cycle

One common misreading: candidates often compare the Mains Written cut off (226.03 for General) against the Final Selection cut off (248.13 for General, RO Secretariat) and assume there is a large gap to cover. There is not — both figures come from the same Mains Written marks. The difference is filtering. The Mains cut off identifies who qualifies for the Practical Test. The Final Selection cut off reflects where the pool actually ended up after the practical stage removed lower scorers. The Practical Test itself carried no marks — it was qualifying only.

1. Number of vacancies per post. Each of the 6 posts has its own vacancy count and its own cut off. A post with fewer vacancies produces a higher cut off even if the applicant pool is similar.

2. Difficulty of the Mains Written Exam. A harder paper lowers the overall score distribution. The General cut off of 226.03 out of 400 marks (around 56.5%) reflects the difficulty level of the October 2024 paper.

3. Number of qualified candidates in each category. Reserved categories with smaller applicant pools tend to see wider variation in cut offs. The ARO UKPSC post shows only a General category entry because only one candidate was selected — meaning no reserved category seat was filled in that post.

For post-wise pay band and allowances, see the pay scale and posting details for RO and ARO posts in the Uttarakhand Secretariat.

Frequently Asked Questions — UKPSC RO ARO 2023 Cut Off

What is the General Category Cut off for UKPSC RO Aro 2023?

The General (UR) cut off for RO ARO 2023 varies by stage. Prelims cut off was 107.9373 out of 150. Mains Written cut off was 226.0316 out of 400. Final selection cut off differs by post — highest for RO Secretariat at 248.1320 and lowest for ARO UKPSC at 242.3040. All figures are from official UKPSC notifications.

What is the cut off different for each RO and ARO post?

Each post — Secretariat, UKPSC, and Revenue Council — has its own separate vacancy count and its own final selection list. Candidates compete within the pool for their preferred post. A post with fewer vacancies and the same number of top-performing applicants will always have a higher cut off. This is why the RO Secretariat General cut off (248.13) is higher than the RO Revenue Council General cut off (244.80) even though both are RO posts.

Is the Prelims cut off calculated out of 150 marks?

Yes. The RO ARO Prelims paper carries 150 marks total. The General cut off of 107.9373 represents approximately 72% of total marks. There is also a separate qualifying condition: a minimum of 35 marks in the General Hindi section within the same paper. Failing General Hindi disqualifies a candidate regardless of their total score.

Why was the Ex – Serviceman cut off revised in May 2024?

UKPSC issued an amended result notification on 13 May 2024. During online application verification, 4 candidates were found to have already availed the Ex-Serviceman horizontal reservation in an earlier government selection. Their Prelims results were cancelled. Removing these 4 candidates from the qualified list shifted the qualifying boundary for Ex-Serviceman from 92.4814 (original) to 91.4679 (revised).

Why does the ARO UKPSC final cut off shows only the general category?

The official notification (11 April 2025) for the ARO UKPSC post lists only one selected candidate — General category, cut off 242.3040. This indicates the post had a very limited number of vacancies, and no reserved category candidates were selected for this specific posting in the final merit list. This is consistent with how UKPSC publishes post-wise results — only categories where selection took place appear in the notification.

Is the Mains Written cut off the same as the Final selection cut off?

No — and this is a common point of confusion. The Mains Written cut off (226.03 for General) determined who qualified to appear in the Practical Test (Computer + Typing held 24 Feb–6 Mar 2025). The Practical Test was qualifying only — it carried no marks. Final selection cut off (248.13 for General, RO Secretariat) is the minimum Mains Written mark among those who both cleared the practical stage and were included in the final merit list. The higher final cut off exists because lower-scoring candidates were removed after the practical qualifying stage.
