Uttarakhand D.El.Ed Entrance Exam 2026 Eligibility Criteria & Qualification Status
Last Updated: Sep 19, 2026 | Source: Official Uk Deled brochure | Ukdeled.com
Before applying for the Uttarakhand D.El.ED Entrance Exam 2026, candidates must confirm they meet every eligibility condition set by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education (UBSE). The board does not shortlist eligibility at the time of application — verification happens only after the exam, once counselling begins. This means an ineligible candidate can apply, pay the fee, and even sit for the exam, only to be disqualified later. Reviewing every condition below carefully before applying is the only way to avoid this.
Once you’ve confirmed you’re eligible, it’s worth reviewing the Uk D.EL.ED syllabus and pattern early, so you know exactly what to prepare for well before the application window closes.
Age Limit
A candidate must be between 19 and 30 years of age as on 1 July of the year the training batch begins. For the 2026 entrance exam, this means 1 July 2027 is the reference date.
- There is no relaxation on the minimum age of 19 years, for any category.
- The upper age limit of 30 years is relaxed for reserved categories as per the Uttarakhand government’s standing personnel department orders.
- Ex-servicemen receive age relaxation only for themselves, as fixed by separate state government orders issued from time to time — this relaxation does not extend to their dependents.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have completed a graduation degree, in Science or a non-Science stream, from a university established by law in India, before the last date of application submission. A degree result declared after the application deadline does not count, even if the exam was completed earlier.
Science and Non-Science Classification
Half of the total seats are reserved for the Science group and half for the Non-Science group, applied district-wise. Where a candidate is placed depends on their graduation subject:
- B.Sc and Agriculture graduates are classified directly under the Science group.
- B.A and B.Com graduates are classified directly under the Non-Science group.
- Graduates holding any other degree — B.C.A, B.B.A, and similar — are classified instead by their Intermediate (12th) stream: an Agriculture stream at Intermediate level places them in Science, and a Commerce stream at Intermediate level places them in Non-Science.
This classification is locked in based on what the candidate selects during the application — it cannot be changed after the deadline, so this is worth getting right the first time.
Domicile and State Eligibility
Eligibility here follows the same domicile framework used for Uttarakhand Group-C government recruitment. A candidate qualifies under any of the following:
- Completed High School and Intermediate education from an institution recognised by the Uttarakhand government, located within the state.
- Is the child or spouse of a defence, paramilitary, state government, or central government employee who is posted in Uttarakhand in a role that cannot be transferred outside the state.
- Is a permanent resident of Uttarakhand who lives outside the state for work or study, along with their spouse and children.
Candidates who do not meet any of these conditions are not eligible to apply, regardless of where they currently reside or work.
Reservation and Relaxation
Category-wise reservation and age relaxation (both vertical, for SC/ST/OBC/EWS, and horizontal, for categories like PwD and freedom fighter dependents) follow standing Uttarakhand government orders. Where a reserved-category seat is left unfilled in a given cycle, it converts to a general-category seat in the following cycle, per the state’s own carry-forward rule for such vacancies.
This reservation benefit is available only to permanent residents of Uttarakhand. It is not available to candidates who otherwise qualify under the domicile rule above without being Uttarakhand’s own residents.
Once you’ve confirmed you meet every condition above, the next step is filling out the online Uk deled application form.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can a final-year graduation student apply for the D.El.Ed entrance exam?
Ans. No. The brochure requires the graduation degree to be completed, with the result declared, before the last date of application submission. A final-year student awaiting results does not meet this condition at the time of applying.
Q2. Is there any relaxation in the minimum age limit for reserved categories?
Ans. No. The minimum age of 19 years applies uniformly to every category, with no relaxation. Only the upper age limit of 30 years is relaxed for reserved categories.
Q3. Does a B.Com or B.A graduate qualify for the Science group?
Ans. No, not by default. B.Com and B.A graduates are classified under the Non-Science group. The only way to be placed in the Science group without a B.Sc or Agriculture degree is if the candidate’s Intermediate (12th) stream was Science-based, and their graduation degree doesn’t clearly fall into a standard science or non-science category.
Q4. Can a candidate living outside Uttarakhand apply?
Ans. Only if they meet one of the specific domicile conditions — for example, being a permanent Uttarakhand resident living elsewhere for work or study, or being the dependent of an Uttarakhand-posted government/defence employee whose role cannot be transferred out of state. Living outside Uttarakhand without meeting one of these conditions does not qualify.
