General Hindi

General Hindi carries 20 marks.

Language and Hindi Language: Language and its forms, languages of India, dialects of Hindi, and major dialects of Uttarakhand (general introduction to Kumaoni, Garhwali and Jaunsari).

Hindi Alphabet and Script: Alphabet, and Indian languages written in the Devanagari script.

Study of Letters (Varna Vichar): Vowels and consonants, Hindi spelling and pronunciation, correct and incorrect words, punctuation marks.

Word Study and Grammar: Tatsam, tadbhav, deshaj and aagat words (words borrowed from other Indian and foreign languages), noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, voice, pad, gender, number, prefix, suffix, case (karak), indeclinable words (avyay), figures of speech (anupras, upma, shlesh, roopak, yamak), word pairs, words with one meaning and many meanings, synonyms, antonyms, homophones and near-similar words (shrutisam-bhinnarthak), one word for many words.
