Public International Law — meaning, nature, and sources; relation with municipal law; subjects of international law and recognition; extradition, asylum, nationality; international organisations (UN, ICJ); UDHR and CEDAW; the Nuremberg Trial.
Unit 3 – Substantive Law: Law of Contract (general principles, Sections 1–75 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872). Law of Torts (meaning, vicarious/strict/absolute liability, negligence, nuisance, defences, remedies). Specific Relief Act, 1963. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (offence and punishment, general exceptions, common intention, criminal conspiracy, offences against women, children, public servants, property, and the human body). Family Law (Hindu and Muslim law on marriage, divorce, adoption, maintenance, succession; Uniform Civil Code; Special Marriage Act, 1954; surrogacy law). The Right to Information Act, 2005.
Unit 4 – Procedural Law: The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (civil suits, jurisdiction, ADR, res judicata, institution of suits, execution of decrees, appeals and revisions). The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (criminal courts, arrest and bail provisions, police powers, public order, cognizance of offences, trial, sentencing). The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (law of evidence, presumption, relevant facts, admission and confession, dying declaration, expert opinion, burden of proof, witness examination).
Unit 5 – Current General Legal Knowledge and Basic Computer Application: Current legal happenings in and around India. Basic computer knowledge covering Windows, the Internet, and MS Office.
